Wheelchair Battery
Wheelchair Battery
Wheelchair Battery is the heart of the power wheelchair or the electric wheelchair. As such,
it is important that you choose the right battery for your wheelchair.
Choosing the right wheelchair battery depends on how you use your wheelchair. An incorrect selection
of wheelchair battery can leave you stranded because the battery power was depleted. Another reason is
that the battery was unable to provide the power required to navigate over rough terrain.
Because Wheelchair Battery takes up volume of space and its weight is heavy, it is the
major limiting factors in power wheelchair performance. Wheelchair Battery
will take up less space, last longer and weigh less when its performance is improved
through increased battery life and capacity.
Choosing the right wheelchair battery also means you will have a more reliable
wheelchair which has lower maintenance requirements and an extended range.
Lead-acid batteries are generally used because they are readily available,
inexpensive, rechargeable and available in sizes appropriate for the power requirements and
range requirements of most electric wheelchairs.
The capacity of the wheelchair battery is rated by the ampere-hour. That is,
if the power wheelchair has an ampere-hour rating of 90 Ah and it runs on 10 amperes, then the power
wheelchair will be able to run for nine hours at room temperature.
The capacity of the typical deep-cycle lead-acid batteries ranges from 30 to 90 ampere-hours which
translates to 3 to 10 hours of continuous use for a power wheelchair that runs on 10 amperes.
