Transport Wheelchair
Transport Wheelchair
Transport wheelchair is the type of wheelchair that is designed to move a person who is
unable to move on their own, and over a short distance. Transport wheelchair offers a temporary
solution to the mobility problem. It requires someone to push from behind the patient.
The typical transport wheelchair has four small wheels (usually a 6-inch caster size), with a
sling seat that is made of vinyl, and back. They are lightweight and meant for transport within
indoor or smooth-surfaced outdoor environments. The transport wheelchair is a convenience solution as
it is lightweight and is ideal for taking someone out shopping or to the doctor's office. It can
be folded and stored in the trunk of a car.
There are also adult-sized stroller-like transport wheelchair, which are also lightweight and
fold similar to a standard baby stroller. They usually include a firm seat and back for more
support in the seated position.
Transport wheelchair is not designed for the patient to propel by themselves. As such, if you are
looking for wheelchair where you can propel, then a transport wheelchair is not a good choice for you.
